Sara Evans’s then-husband, Jay Barker, 49 has been arrested by Nashville Police on Saturday early morning (Jan 15) for allegedly attempting to hit Evans with his car.

He was charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon and placed on a $10,000 bond with a 12-hour hold because it was a domestic violence case.

On Saturday night, he was released before 7:30 p.m. on the same day after posting his bond. According to Evans and other witnesses, Barker allegedly reversed his vehicle at a high rate of speed and tried to hit Evans with his car but missed.

Evans was leaving for her home at 1:30 am after attending a party at a neighbor’s on Norwood Drive. Barker then allegedly drove away before Evans called the police. Later on, he returned and talked to authorities.

The couple never hinted publicly that they were experiencing relationship troubles. Following Barker’s arrest, the fans were shocked after knowing the news of the couple’s separation.

Are Sara Evans and Jay Barker Divorced?

Sara Evans and Jay Barker are still legally married. In August 2020, Evans filed for divorce from husband Jay Barket citing “irreconcilable differences” and “inappropriate marital conduct”.

According to court records, Barker and Evans had been living separately for the past three months. The couple got married in 2008. They haven’t shared any children together but Barker has several children from a previous marriage.

Similarly, Evans has three children named Avery Jack, Olivia Margaret, and Audrey Elizabeth with her first husband Craig Schelske.

On 16th January, Barker released a statement via his sports radio show’s Instagram page in which he asked for privacy.

He wrote in an Instagram post,

“We all confront challenges in life, and my family and I are facing one now. Unfortunately, headlines and quick-to-publish news stories do not adequately capture the full context and complex fabric of our lives. I love my family dearly, and at this difficult time, I respectfully ask for privacy for the sake of my family and especially for our kids.”
