The late legendary singer Aretha Franklin’s granddaughter Grace Franklin auditioned for ‘American Idol’.

The 15-years-old celebrity kids feature in an auditioned round of season 20 of American Idol on a recent episode of the season of American Idol. The auditioned judges by Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan. She sang the Lauryn Hill version of the Robert Flack hit “Killing Me Softly”, as well as her late grandmother’s song “Ain’t No Way”.

Before her performance, she revealed her relationship with Aretha to the panel which instantly drew the attention of judge Lionel Ritchie. He was surprised and said,

“Stop right there. That is your grandma?”

Richie then reminisced about his friendship with the late iconic singer and shared a memory about visiting her home. Franklin also recalled her relationship with her grandmother.

She said,

“I don’t think I could fully grasp the fact that she was famous worldwide. Because to me she was always grandma…I was really close to my grandma. I got to see her all the time. I got to travel with her a lot.”

Her grandmother Aretha Franklin died at age 76 in 2018. It has been reported that the iconic singer was ailing from pancreatic cancer for a long time due to which she passed away.

At first, Grace sang, “Killing Me Softly” that judge Luke Bryan called “a little sleepy”. Then, Katy asked her if she had anything else she could sing after that she sang her grandmother’s classic tunes, “Aint’s No Way”. Although she couldn’t make it as Richie and Bryan voted “no”.

Brief about Grace Franklin

Grace Franklin is a student. She is a member of the Detroit Youth Choir since 2019. She got the inspiration to join the Youth Choir after watching the choir perform at New Bethel Baptist Church as part of the Queen of Soul’s two-week memorial tribute.

Franklin was born and raised in a musical family. The name of her parents is Kecalf Cunningham (father) and Kafi Franklin (mother). Her father is the youngest son of the late Aretha Franklin. Similarly, she has two siblings named Jordan and Victoria. Further, she goes by the name of @gfranklin61 on Instagram where she has more than 10.4k followers to date.
