Margot Robbie landed her role in ‘Barbie’ after Amy Schumer quit the role
The much-anticipated Barbie movie, which stars Margot Robbie as the famous doll and also features Ryan Gosling as Ken, is scheduled to be released on July 21, 2023.
Although the Aussie actress appears to be an ideal choice for the role of Barbie, she wasn’t the original pick. In fact, comedian Amy Schumer was initially chosen for the role until 2017.
The film was first conceptualized in 2009 after Mattel formed a partnership with Universal Pictures. However, after several years of nothing, it was transferred to Sony Pictures in 2014.
The comedian signed on to the project two years later and was even supposed to write the script. But due to scheduling conflicts, she quit the project a few months later. The reason was reported to be creative differences with Sony.
In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, she explained that she was not the right person for the role. She said:
“The studio definitely didn’t want to do it the way I wanted to do it. The only way I was interested in doing it.”
She added:
“The idea that that’s just what every woman must want, right there, I should have gone, ‘You’ve got the wrong gal’.”
Warner Bros Studios picked up the movie in 2018 and a year later, Robbie was given the role. Greta Gerwig will direct the movie.

The internet kept talking about Margot Robbie’s feet after the Barbie trailer was released
The official trailer for the movie was released on April 4 that showed Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling walking around a vivid pink environment.
Moreover, it also showed other actors including Simu Liu, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Ncuti Gatwa and Scott Evans as other variation on Ken, whereas Dua Lipa, Emma Mackey, Alexandra Shipp, Kate McKinnon, Hari Nef, and others are playing variations of Barbie.
While the plot of the film remains unknown, the trailer has created a lot of buzz.
A specific shot of Margot recreating Barbie’s iconic posture has captured the internet.
Since her debut in 1959, the iconic doll has been recognized for her permanently pointed toes, and her recreation of this stance while standing on her tiptoes in the trailer was amazing.
A Tweet read:
“I haven’t gasped in astonishment at a single shot like this from any superhero movie since 2004.”
Even Chrissy Teigen was astonished. She tweeted:
“I need to know everything about this shot. How many takes, if she held onto something, was she harnessed, is the landing mark sticky, are they her feet, who did the pedicure, really just a documentary on this shot.”
A twitter user wrote:
“Greta Gerwig really shook the whole film Twitter world with this one simple shot.”
Another tweeted:
“The first shot of the Barbie The Movie trailer is a shot of Margot Robbie’s feet. They know there’s a massive group of guys that will pay to see this in IMAX.”
