Who is Nazanin Boniadi?

Nazanin Boniadi is an Italian-British actress & human rights defender known for appearing in General Hospital. 

She also appeared as Zahra in Hotel Mumbai and Rudi Bakhtiar in Bombshell.

Nazanin Boniadi- Early Life

Nazanin Boniadi was born on 22nd May 1980 in Tehran, Iran. She was raised in London, England. Her parents moved to London less than a month later at the height of the Iranian Revolution. As a young girl, she performed violin and ballet.

Her great-great-grandfather was 19th Century Persian Philosopher and Poet Hajj Mirza Hasan Isfahani, Hazrat Safi Ali Shah.

Education

Nazanin Boniadi attended a private high school and later moved to the United States. She earned a bachelor’s degree with honors in biological sciences from the University of California, Irvine.

At the time of University, she won the Chang Pin-Chun Undergraduate Research Award for molecular research of cancer treatment and heart transplant rejection.

In 2006, Nazanin Boniadi started her acting career and made her first major acting role at General Hospital. She appeared as Leyla Mir. Similarly, she was the first Iranian-born actress to be on contract on an American soap opera.

Her other TV roles include in The Deep End, 24, Suits, How I Met Your Mother, Best Friends Forever, Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, and Counterpart.

Activism

Nazanin Boniadi was a spokesperson for Amnesty International USA with a focus on the unjust conviction and treatment of Iranian youth, women, and prisoners of conscience from 2009 until 2015.

Similarly, in December 2010, Boniadi initiated an Amnesty International petition for Iranian film directors that had been convicted of propaganda against the state.

On 3rd June 2011, she joined Sarah Shourd in a rolling hunger strike.

Likewise, in October 2015, Nazanin became a board member of the Center for Human Rights in Iran.
