Phil Donahue started his career as a production assistant on KYW radio and WKYC-TV.

After graduation from college. he became the program director for WABJ radio in Adrian, Michigan. He became a stringer for CBS Morning News.

Later Phil Donahue served as an anchor at WHIO-TV in Dayton, Ohio. Phil Donahue hosted a talk show named Conversation Piece.

He hosted the show from 1963 to 1967 on WHIO radio. Besides these, he had done various interviews.
