Who is Tom Carver?

Tom Carver is a writer, author, and former BBC foreign correspondent. He is also the Senior Vice-President at the Control Risks Group, a consulting company.

Tom was born on November 2, 1960, in Hereford, United Kingdom. His full name is Thomas Richard Carver.

He is the son of Richard Carver (father), who is a British army officer whereas his mother’s name is not known. He has two siblings.

And his grandfather is Oswald Carver who was an Olympic oarsman who rowed in London during the 1908 Summer Olympics. His grandfather was murdered at the age of 28 in 1916 during Gallipoli’s fight.

Tom joined BBC working as a local radio trainee and became its correspondent. Working there and covering various projects, he became one of a renowned journalist.

In 1991, the journalist was Africa as the BBC Africa’s correspondent covering the US-led invasion.  Well, he reported from Angola, Somalia, Uganda, Mozambique, Kenya, and Tanzania, the start of the Rwandan genocide and chronicled the collapse of South African apartheid. Likely, he also reported the Massacre of Srebenica in 1995.

Tom Carver worked as the BBC’s Washington correspondent for BBC for more than seven years. Tom was also one of the journalists in 2003 to travel with Vice-President Dick Cheney in the Iraq War.

He covered the 2004 election September 11 and its aftermath, two presidential election campaigns, and accompanied on countless global trips President Clinton, and President Bush.

He headed the Washington Control Risks office which is one of the world’s leading political-risk consultancies, before joining CLS in 2008.

Tom Carver is also an author and has written in various newspapers, including The Independent, London Review of Books, The Sunday Times, New Statesman, and The Guardian.

He has written Where the hell have you been?, which includes his father’s adventures during World War II, and his escape from a prisoner-of-war camp PG 49.

Furthermore, Tom was honored by the National Academy of  Sciences and Television Arts for his coverage of the September 11 crisis.
