The 6th Annual HCA Film Awards took place on Friday, February 24, at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. The star event was full of all the big celebs all around.

This year three other special recognitions presented among other 2023 HCA Film Award recipients; the Spotlight Award for the cast and crew of ‘RRR’, the Acting Achievement Award for Angela Bassett, and the Filmmaking Achievement Award for Rian Johnson.

Among the winners, Brendan Fraser has won one of the accolades, Best Actor for his acclaimed performance in ‘The Whale’.

This is a huge accomplishment for him that he come back to the film field after doing just three movies since 2014.

Brendan Fraser was one of the nominees for Best Actor along with Austin Butler (Elvis), Colin Farrell (The Banshees of Inisherin), Paul Mescal (Aftersun), and Tom Cruise (Top Gun: Maverick).

The 54-years old actor was the one who finally took home the trophy for Best Actor at the 6th Annual Hollywood Critics Association Film Awards on Friday night.

He was awarded for his performance as a reclusive and morbidly fat English teacher in Darren Aronofsky‘s psychological drama film The Whale. Fraser gave a tearful speech after receiving the award, expressing,

“I was in the wilderness and I probably should have left a trail of breadcrumbs, but you found me,”

Similarly, Brendan shows gratitude towards director Darren Aronofsky for giving him opportunities in the critically lauded role. He said the film is about “finding the light in a dark place” and urged those suffering emotionally to take heart.

“For anyone like Charlie, who struggles with obesity, or for anyone who just feels like you are in a dark sea: I want you to know that you too have the strength to just get to your feet and go to the light. And good things will happen.”
