Ed Helms was born Edward Parker Helms on 24 January 1974, in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. Ed is an American by nationality and is of English, Irish, German, Dutch, and French ethnicity.

He is the son of John A. Helms(father) and Pamela Ann(mother). His father was a lawyer, insurance executive, and Navy veteran, and his mother was a school administrator.

He is the youngest of three children and has a sister named Susan Carol Helms Daley, and a brother named John Paxton Helms.

Education

Ed graduated from The Westminster School in 1992. After that, he entered Oberlin College as a geology major but ended up graduating in 1996 with his B.A. in film theory and technology.

He also spent a semester as an exchange student at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.

Helms is a recipient of an honorary degree of Doctor of Fine Arts from Knox College, where he delivered the 2013 Commencement Address.

In May 2014, Helms gave a convocation speech at Cornell University. In May 2015, he gave the valedictory speech at the University of Virginia.

Ed began his comedy and acting career as a writer and performer with New York City sketch comedy bands. He worked as a trainee film editor at Crew Cuts, a post-production facility in New York City.

Ed made his film debut in the 2004 film Blackballed: The Bobby Dukes Story, in which he played Bunker McLaughlin.

He began working as a correspondent on The Daily Show in 2005 and left the show in 2006. From 2006 to 2013, he played the lead character of Andy Bernard in the TV series The Office.

Helms starred in the 2011 film Cedar Rapids. He also co-starred in the blockbuster The Hangover film trilogy as Stuart Price.

He won the “Teen Choice Award- Choice Movie: Hissy Fit” for his performance in The Hangover Part II in 2011.

Helmes voiced the character Benjamin Krupp / Captain Underpants in Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie (2017).
