Legendary talk show host Jerry Springer dies aged 79
Jerry Springer, a well-known talk show host, passed away at the age of 79 in his residence in Chicago, Illinois on April 27, 2023. Springer’s family stated that he died peacefully at home in Chicago.
In a statement, the family said:
“Jerry’s ability to connect with people was at the heart of his success in everything he tried whether that was politics, broadcasting or just joking with people on the street who wanted a photo or a word. He’s irreplaceable and his loss hurts immensely, but memories of his intellect, heart and humor will live on.”
The statement continued:
“Funeral services and a memorial gathering are currently being developed. To remember Jerry, the family asks that in lieu of flowers you consider following his spirit and make a donation or commit to an act of kindness to someone in need or a worthy advocacy organization. As he always said, ‘Take care of yourself, and each other.'”
Springer was most famous for his 27-year-long tenure as the host of his talk show, where guests were known for their controversial, excessive, and often sexual behavior.

English broadcaster Piers Morgan wrote on Twitter:
“Jeez this sucks. RIP Jerry Springer, 79. TV icon and such an intelligent, warm, funny man. Loved working with him on America’s got Talent, loved hanging out with him (we lived in the same hotel for two years), loved arguing with him (he loved his politics), loved everything about him. Gutting.”
