Her father was a prosperous restaurant owner. He died in 1986. Her mother, Betty died in 1998). She was their only child.

Her mother changed her last name to St. John during her adolescent years because she thought it sounded more like a Hollywood name. When she was just 5, she started appearing as a regular on the local radio show, ‘One Man’s Family.’ At age 9, she made her TV debut in the series, ‘Sandy Dreams.’

In the 60s, her popularity reached new heights. She was the lead in the movie, ‘The Lost World.’ A year later, she starred alongside Warren Beatty in ‘The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone.

In 1961, she had another major role in ‘Come Blow Your Horn’ (1963) for which she earned a Golden Globe Award nomination for ‘Best Actress.

More success followed as she appeared in a number of other movies such as ‘Who’s Minding the Store, ‘Who’s Been Sleeping in My Bed?’, ‘Honeymoon Hotel’, ‘The Oscar’, etc. In addition to movies, she also appeared as a guest on TV shows including ‘The Rogues,’ ‘Burke’s Law,’ and ‘Batman’.

St. John gained more popularity and attention after portraying the iconic role of ‘Tiffany Case’  in the 1971 James Bond movie, ‘Diamonds Are Forever.

She starred with Sean Connery and became the first American Bond girl in the movie. Following that, she appeared in ‘Sitting Target’ (1972) and ‘Saga of Sonora’ (1973).

In 1989, she starred in ‘Around the World in 80 Days. In 2014, she portrayed Mrs. Claus in the TV movie, ‘Northpole’ after 12 years of absence from the screen.
