The 45th season of the show which resumes this September will not feature Leslie. - And, she is now going to concentrate on her upcoming feature film and her comedy special on Netflix, it is learned.
Leslie Jones quits SNL
The actress cum comedian Leslie Jones has quit the show on NBC Saturday Night Live. The sketch comedy show that Lorne Michaels produces will resume this September and this will be its 45th season.
But unfortunately, Leslie Jones will not feature in it. Sources have revealed that Leslie will leave the show. She wants to concentrate on her upcoming feature film. Additionally, she will be having a new comedy special show on Netflix soon.
The show SNL will resume on 28 September 2019. And its host would be Woody Harrelson and Billie Elish would be the musical guest.
However, Emmy winner Kate McKinnon will continue on the show and has sealed a new deal with the show producers for this season.
About Leslie Jones and her time on the show SNL
Leslie Jones joined this NBC show in 2014 in the capacity of a cast member. Prior to this, she had worked on the show as a writer.
Furthermore, she first began as a comedian on the show in various appearances. And, she was mostly on the Weekend Update segments.
In 2013, the show was criticized for its mainly white cast. At that time, Leslie Jones’ name was suggested to join the show.
She was invited to join it but ultimately Sasheer Zamata got the gig in the same year. Hence, it was the next year that Leslie managed to procure a job on this show.
Presently, Leslie is the only cast member who is leaving the show this season.
The other cast members who are continuing include Pete Davidson, Mikey Day, Colin Jost, Beck Bennett, Aidy Bryant, Michael Che, Kate McKinnon, Alex Moffat, Kyle Mooney, Cecily Strong, Melissa Villasenor, and Kenan Thompson. Heidi Gardner, Ego Nwodim, and Chris Redd will be the featured players.
It has been a trend on SNL to change a cast member every season. Last year, Luke Null departed from the show. This season it is Leslie’s turn.
In 2018, Ego Nwodim joined the series as a featured player as Day. Additionally, Alex Moffat and Melissa Villasenor were promoted to be part of the repertory cast. Who the new cast member would be in place of Leslie is not clear as yet.

Leslie has a new feature film coming up in which she has acted. It is named Coming to America. She had also appeared in Ghostbusters. She had lent her voice for The Angry Birds Movie 2 recently.
Leslie also has a new show coming on Netflix which is a comedy special. She wants to concentrate on these projects now.
Leslie is 51 years old and she was the oldest cast member on SNL. For this show, she was nominated for Emmy in the supporting actress category in 2017 as well as in 2018.
