Richard Hammond was born on 19 December 1969 in Solihull, Warwickshire, England. His full name is Richard Mark Hammond.

He was born to his mother Eileen Hammond and father Alan Hammond. He also has two younger brothers and they are named Andrew Hammond and Nicholas Hammond.

His brother, Andrew is a writer and has written the ‘Crypt’ series. His family moved to North Yorkshire where he grew up.
