Virgil van Dijk is all set to become the World’s expensive center-back after he agrees to join Liverpool from Southampton for £75 million

Liverpool has agreed to a £75 million deal for Virgil Van Dijk. Liverpool had wanted him to sign last summer and offered £60m for the former Southampton defender.

Furthermore, Virgil van Dijk will officially become a Liverpool player on January 1, 2018, when the January transfer window opens.

Recently, he also completed a medical on the south coast on Wednesday after the two clubs agreed on the transfer amount. As his medical was completed and fixed to make a move to Liverpool. He also becomes the most expensive defender of all time.

Previously, Manchester City signed back-to-back three record-breaking signings. Benjamin Mendy and John Stones had joined the Blues for €57 million and €55.6 million respectively.

Virgil van Dijk’s journey throughout the years

The Dutch international joined the Saints from Celtic for £13m in September 2015. Since his joining, he has appeared in 67 matches and also scored four goals for his former club.

The 26-year-old was left out of Southampton’s squad which they lost 5-2 to Tottenham in which Harry Kane also broke a couple of records. Previously, he has also played for Celtic and also represented Groningen in 62 matches.

During his 2015-16 season, he won the Southampton Player of the Season Award. Liverpool was not the only club that had an eye for the Dutch international.

Manchester City was also the favorite to sign Virgil. However, he dumped Manchester City and agreed to join Liverpool.
