He is the son of Douglas Domenech and Jeanne Marie Schram (mother). His father is a government official. Currently, he is serving as the assistant of the United States Secretary of the interior.

In March 2006, The Washington Post hired him as a blogger to contribute a conservative point of view. The following month, he joined APCO Worldwide as an online writer and project manager on a contract basis.

In August 2009, he became a senior member of the Heartland Institute. He worked for the institute for around 6 years. In the meantime, he was also promoted to the managing director of the firm.

In September 2013, he launched the online magazine, The Federalist which covers politics, policy, and religion. Currently, he is a publisher for the magazine.

In January 2017, he joined CBS News as a contributor. Besides this, he has also made his appearance in the TV series, Fox News Sunday as a panelist.
